Introduction

At the American University of the Middle East (AUM), sustainability and environmental responsibility are fundamental to the University’s mission and operations. AUM recognizes its role as a responsible institutional actor, committed to safeguarding natural resources and contributing to environmental protection at both the local and global levels.

The University is dedicated to embedding sustainable practices across all aspects of its activities and to fostering a culture of environmental stewardship. Through this Climate Strategy Policy, AUM affirms its commitment to implementing measurable and impactful actions that support long-term sustainability and climate resilience.

Scope

This policy applies to all AUM operations and activities, including administration, academic programs, research, campus facilities, and student life.

AUM’s sustainability and climate strategy is guided by the following principles:

Integration into the Curriculum

AUM recognizes the importance of embedding sustainability across the curriculum to prepare future professionals committed to sustainable development. The University works collaboratively with faculty and subject matter experts to integrate environmental and social themes into academic programs and learning experiences.

This approach is reinforced through “Sustainability and Global Perspectives” as a cross-cutting principle within AUM’s Learning and Educational Philosophy. Embedded across all academic and curricular dimensions, this principle promotes intercultural awareness, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. It also encourages the integration of local, regional, and global perspectives, ensuring that students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset required to thrive in an increasingly interconnected and complex world.
